I typically go out of town when seeking a high end restaurant experience. However, I met a client at Citrone yesterday and was pleasantly surprised that we have a little bit of Manhattan here in Redlands. The ambiance was inviting and reminded me of many high end restaurants back east: small dining room, lots of uncovered windows creating the overall feeling of light and airy, brick, open kitchen, upscale bar area in the back, simple elegant tables, and an outstanding wine list. I ordered Seabass and my client a spinach salad which we enjoyed. The young attractive, all male, staff knew exactly what they were talking about when they described the excellent menu as well as specials and ensured that the atmosphere was relaxing and friendly. Our waiter did an excellent job and encouraged us to try several things that were new to us.The presentation was nice and the service prompt. My client having owned a high end restaurant for 20 years noted one no no: I finished my meal before my client and the waiter took my plate away leaving my client to finish. The ticket was bit pricey, but worth it. I am happy to know we have a fine establishment like Citrone and The Farm in Redlands.

The Farm Artisan Foods

I have eaten at the Farm a lot lately and have enjoyed every meal. One of my favorites in Niko Niko Sushi. I haven't had one thing that wasn't mouth watering, particularly if you get too much wasabi on your chopstick. I especially enjoy the unusual art they have displayed. I wonder if one of the staff members creates them? I guess I should ask one of these days. Sushi Kimo has been around a long time, but many people I talk to don't know about it. I hear they have one of the best sushi chefs in the region. My friend also told me they have a special chef's menu which consists of several courses. I'll have to give it a go one of these days. I always forget about Hello Sushi because it's tucked away behind Nick's Burgers. In fact, I can't comment because it has been over 8 years since I was there. Is it any good? I heard Super Sushi opened up in the States area off Alabama. Anyone been there? This new spot is located downstairs in the Cope Building, or at least I think it's the Cope building in Redlands. The bar reminded me of that old TV show "Cheers." I was waiting for Cliff to stop by for his usual. I was surprised that this place was a restaurant. I ordered salmon and what I received was unexpected. The salmon came on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes with white asparagus arranged in an artsy way around the plate. I learned that the chef is from a culinary school, so that explained the presentation. The meal was excellent and the price was reasonable. I was a tad offset by the price of a glass of wine, but I guess that's because I was out. It's hard to swallow when you can buy an entire bottle of that same wine for the price they charge for a glass. However, I'm able to get over that because the place was warm and comfortable and the food outstanding!

Redlands Food and Wine

I have attended several wine dinners in Redlands and have enjoyed the experiences a great deal. I had a turkey club and it was so large that I could not finish it. Sandwiches come with a side, I had the three bean salad. Everything was good and I hate to say this but I will, they had a really nice bathroom--really clean and nice furniture and artwork. I will definitely return.

Redlands Has a Great New Cafe

Carolyn's Cafe is a pleasant surprise tucked away on the north side of town. I was so impressed with the bright little cafe-I don't know what I expected but what a pleasant surprise! I enjoyed a club sandwich on sourdough toast. Ok, so maybe it doesn't sound out of the ordinary, but everything from the fresh bread to the thick cut bacon to the fresh deli sliced turkey were excellent. The restaurant was full which is always a good sign to me that the food must be good.
The service was great--friendly personalities, good service and quick food delivery. I also enjoyed the bustling atmosphere--good energy, not a raucous distracting environment. I am excited to find the cafe near my work on the north side of the freeway. I recommend giving it a try.
